This resource provides a clear articulation of what GrACE is as a movement serving Catholic education.
It sets out:
Its ecclesial structure and relationships, including dioceses, ACSTA, and CCSSA
Its shared mission across the system, expressed as “One Mission | One System”
Its governance as an incorporated Catholic society under episcopal oversight
Together, these elements ensure a consistent and grounded understanding of GrACE across all partners.
The resource reflects how GrACE operates across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and beyond, connecting the full Catholic education community—Church leadership, trustees, superintendents, educators, parishes, and families.
It also provides measurable indicators of engagement and reach from June 2023 to October 2025.
It reflects the shared responsibility to advance Catholic education and the importance of alignment across the system.
The resource looks ahead to the continued growth and strengthening of GrACE as a system-wide movement of formation, engagement, and public witness.
It highlights the importance of continued alignment among bishops, trustees, superintendents, Catholic school districts, parishes, parents, educators, and students, so that GrACE remains visible, active, and effective in supporting publicly funded Catholic education.
This future-facing focus reinforces that the work of GrACE is ongoing—inviting continued participation, shared responsibility, and renewed commitment across the Catholic education system.
Catholic education shapes more than students. It forms hearts, minds, and lives rooted in Christ.
This May, communities across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon will come together to mark Catholic Education Week—a clear and public affirmation of the mission and value of Catholic schools.
Why Catholic Education Matters: Catholic education exists to do what no other system can - to form young people in:
Faith in Jesus Christ
Moral clarity and character
Service to others
A deep sense of purpose
For generations, Catholic schools have stood alongside families and parishes—forming students not only for success in the world, but for lives grounded in truth, faith, and service.
This is not new. It is a 2,000-year tradition—and it continues today.
A Week of Faith in Action
During Catholic Education Week, this mission is made visible. Across our communities, you will see:
School liturgies and prayer
Acts of service and outreach
Student leadership and witness
Faith lived openly and confidently
This is not simply a celebration—it is a public witness to the purpose and strength of Catholic education.
One Mission. One Community.
Catholic education depends on unity. This week reflects the shared responsibility of:
Bishops and clergy
Trustees and system leaders
Teachers and staff
Parents and families
Students at the center
Each has a role. Together, they sustain a mission that cannot be replaced.
The Witness of Our Students
At the center of Catholic education are our students. They are not only being formed—they are already witnessing to the world through their faith, their actions, and their lives.
Forming the Next Generation in Faith
In a time of uncertainty and rapid change, Catholic education provides:
A strong academic foundation
A clear moral framework
A faith-filled community
A lasting sense of purpose
It forms young people who know they are loved by God and called to serve others.
Be Part of It
Catholic Education Week is not an event to observe—it is a responsibility to uphold. GrACE calls on the entire Catholic community to stand behind our schools during Catholic Education Week—through prayer, participation, and visible support:
Attend school and parish events
Pray for students, families, and educators
Support and promote Catholic education publicly
Faith is alive—and our Catholic schools are where it is formed, lived, and seen.
Across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon, Catholic schools are not simply operating — they are witnessing. The GrACE Champions initiative was created to make that witness visible.
Each month, GrACE highlights a Catholic school, division, or community partner that is intentionally living the mission of Catholic education. These stories reveal something deeper than activity; they demonstrate formation. From Eucharistic Adoration and Reconciliation, to Advent service projects, Scripture study, saint-inspired leadership, and works of mercy, Catholic identity is being woven into the daily rhythm of school life.
The Champions initiative was designed to provide structure and equity — ensuring that school divisions across regions have an opportunity to share how faith is lived publicly in their communities. But it has grown into more than a calendar. It has become a movement of gratitude and accountability: gratitude for the gift of publicly funded Catholic education, and accountability to steward that gift faithfully.
What emerges from these monthly features is a clear pattern. Catholic schools are forming the whole person — mind, heart, and spirit — through sacrament, service, leadership, and prayer. Students are encountering Christ not as an abstract concept, but as a living presence. They are learning that faith calls them to act, to serve, to lead, and to belong to something greater than themselves.
In a cultural moment where Catholic education can be misunderstood or reduced to infrastructure, the GrACE Champions initiative reminds us what is actually happening inside our schools. Communities are praying together. Students are studying Scripture voluntarily. Classrooms are engaging Catholic Social Teaching in practical ways. Service is not seasonal; it is formative. Leadership is not self-promotion; it is rooted in humility and mission.
By sharing these stories across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon, GrACE is strengthening a collective voice. Catholic education is not sustained quietly. It is strengthened when it is witnessed publicly.
The invitation is simple and direct: every Catholic school community has a story worth telling. The Champions template provides a clear framework — 100–150 words and a few images — to make that witness visible. When schools participate, they contribute to a growing record of lived Catholic identity across Western Canada.
GrACE Champions is not about recognition for its own sake. It is about renewal through testimony. It is about reminding one another that the mission entrusted to Catholic education is alive, active, and bearing fruit.
And it is about encouraging every school, parish, and partner to step forward and say: this is how we are living the faith.
Each month, selected schools are invited to submit a GrACE Champions article for inclusion in the GrACE newsletter. The calendar reflects a fair rotation across school divisions, ensuring balanced visibility of Catholic education stories throughout the year.
Schools are not restricted to their assigned month. Submissions are welcome at any time from any school or division.
This calendar exists to provide:
a clear structure for planning,
a predictable timeline, and
equitable representation across divisions.
Deadline: 15th of the assigned month

The Sacred Triad of home, school, and parish is only as strong as the people who uphold it.
